How Do You Say ‘Battery’ in Mandarin?

I have a joke about batteries not being included, but it may not work here.

China’s leaders, according to news reports, have set their sights on making China the world leader in the production of hybrid and all-electric vehicles. Cars and buses. Within three years, to boot.

When it comes to traditional gas- and diesel-powered vehicles, Chinese automakers have struggled to make up ground against established marques. Apparently, though, the country may hold an edge when it comes to the next level of propulsion technology.

China’s intention, in addition to creating a world-leading industry that will produce jobs and exports, is to reduce urban pollution and decrease its dependence on foreign oil (sounds oddly familiar).

Already, the Chinese government is offering sizable subsidies to taxi fleets in 13 Chinese cities to convert to hybrid or all-electric vehicles, and car-charging stations are being built in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. China is already a leading producer of batteries, and transferring technology for the types of power units required to drive a passenger vehicle won’t take that much.
