The incentives, approved by the state legislature earlier this year, would be for up to $60 million to the two companies for keeping jobs in the eastern part of the state and making capital investments.
The lawsuit alleges that the grants are not for a public purpose because they are not tied to the creation of new jobs.
The suit was filed on behalf of three individuals and one nonprofit organization, the Wake County Taxpayers Association.
Previous incentives challenges have not been successful for the group. But Jeanette Doran, senior staff attorney for the organization, said this case is different from other challenges because of the lack of new job creation. (Tire Review/Akron)
