Founded four years ago, Honor Flight is a veterans-only charter that gives participants the chance to see the World War II Memorial, as well as other historical sights, at no cost. The group flew from Dayton to D.C. and toured the WWII, Korean, Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials.
Grismer Tire provided a $10,000 donation to Honor Flight in August. The company challenged other Dayton-area businesses to meet their contribution, and the resulting fund drive among citizens enabled the charter flight, which costs over $50,000 including meals and other accommodations.
Grismer’s Vice President, John Marshall, was one of the volunteer guardians who helped to escort the veterans on the trip.
There are currently 6,000 veterans on the national waiting list for Honor Flight. Top priority is given to America’s most senior veterans survivors of World War II or any vet with a terminal illness who wishes to visit his/her memorial. For more information, visit honorflight.org.
