(Akron/Tire Review) Efforts by Liberia’s government have apparently failed to quell the week-old strike at Firestone Plantation Co., where production has reportedly ceased.

"At the moment, the strike is still on. The government came here yesterday and appealed to the workers to go back to work so that they could look into their grievances," Feay Roberts, the plantation’s industrial relations manager, told Reuters.

"The workers have not come back to work yet. Some of them wanted to but they were prevented by some of their colleagues," Roberts told Reuters.

Workers said the dispute involves wages and working conditions.
