ATD acquired the Winston line when it bought the now closed Winston Tire, a retail chain based in California.
According to ATD, Goodyear has committed to working with the distributor “to transition ATD and its dealers to alternative products and sources of supply.”
“There are multiple manufacturers, both domestic and offshore, competing in the lower price tiers of the tire market,” said Ron Sinclair, ATD’s vice president of marketing. “ATD sources product from many of these suppliers and will continue to have an unsurpassed product offering for our dealers across all price tiers.”
TBC Corp’s Multi-Mile and Cordovan brands and SURE Tire’s Essenza brand were among the other victims of Goodyear’s effort to trim production volumes, according to reports. SURE Tire had previously decided to eliminate the Essenza high performance line in favor of Goodyear’s Kelly Fierce line.
ATD said it has developed a plan to transition the Winston brand volume to other lines in their offering. “We’ve been developing an ATD strategy for this entry-level product segment long before this recent announcement,” said Sinclair, “and our dealers will see the first phase of the strategy, and the corresponding benefits to them, implemented in the very short term.”
