Goodyear Adds Carbon Fiber to New Eagle

(Akron/Tire Review) Carbon fiber is Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s latest tire innovation trick, as the company introduced the Goodyear Eagle featuring “ResponsEdge Technology” to its dealers during the company annual dealer meeting, continuing in Nashville today.

The new tire will be available to consumers in May in 24 sizes.

Carbon fiber is used as a reinforcement in the outboard sidewall of the new Eagle featuring ResponsEdge Technology. The carbon fiber insert provides stiffness to aid handling and steering precision, said Goodyear, and combined with conventional tire construction on the inboard sidewall, the ResponsEdge tire delivers a “smooth, comfortable ride.”

Goodyear also said the tires belt package includes “a sound- and shock-absorbing InsuLayer made with DuPont Kevlar, to help provide a smooth, quiet ride, along with promoting even treadwear.”

"The unique construction allows our engineers to develop a product we call a performance tire with manners," said Bob Toth, Goodyear’s marketing manager for auto tires.

The tire’s dual-compound, asymmetric tread features an “All-Season Zone” with an open tread pattern, grooves for water dispersion and siping. The area’s silica tread compound assists in “all-season traction and handling,” Goodyear said.

The outboard side of the tread, which Goodyear calls the “Performance Zone,” consists of broader tread blocks and a circumferential rib made of “super- grip performance tread compound,” which the company said aids traction, handling and braking.

Consumer buyers will also get Goodyear’s “Eagle Performance Package,” which includes a 30-day no obligation trial, a roadside assistance program, nationwide warranty service, and access to Goodyear’s “Garage Program” which provides tire rotation reminders, new product announcements, coupons and more.
