General Truck Tires ‘Grab’ New Name

Borrowing from its successful light truck tire line, Continental Tire the Americas has relaunched its General brand medium truck tire lines under a new name: Grabber.

Kicking off the rebranding effort is the General Grabber OA, a new off-road, all-position tire targeting the construction and other off-road applications. Launched in July in sizes 11R22.5 and 11R24.5, the Grabber OA is a renamed version of the General MS520, and features a 23/32nds tread depth, cut and chip resistant tread and sidewall compounds, and stone ejectors.

"The General name is one that our customers know and trust, but now we are going to strengthen it even further with our new focus. Our plan is to offer dealers more choice than ever before,” said brand manager Libor Heger. “Over the next year, we’ll be extending our product portfolio with coverage in more sizes, as well as more coverage in the on/off-road segment.”

As new products are launched, each will take on the Grabber moniker, Heger said, with new line names that better reflect their intended application. For example, Grabber OA is for “off-road, all-position,” while Grabber H will designate highway radials and Grabber R will cover regional tires.

Heger said plans call for a number of new General medium truck tires to be launched in the coming year.

In addition to the new name, the General brand has a new, full-color databook with complete tire product information and specifications, and new literature for each tire.
