Florida’s effort to outlaw "unsafe used tires" may have received a boost when that legislative proposal was combined with another bill that was considered "must-pass legislation."
According to RMA senior vice president of pubic affairs Dan Zielinski, the Florida Senate Appropriations Committee amended SB 1132, a state transportation bill, with the language from SB 1588, a bill to prohibit the sale of unsafe used tires.
The Senate Committee, he said, then “accepted the amendment by voice vote and passed SB 1132 unanimously. Basically, this means that RMA-supported unsafe used tire legislation is now contained within SB 1132.”
Zielinski said that SB 1132 is considered to be “must-pass legislation” during this session of the Florida Legislature, which adjourns on May 3.
The bill is expected to be considered by the full state Senate in the coming days. Should it pass the Senate, it will be sent to the House for consideration. Any changes made by the House would then need to be reviewed and approved by the Senate before adjournment on May 3.
