Shandong Linglong Tyre’s plant in Thailand’s eastern industrial estate was engulfed Feb. 1 by a massive fire, causing about $40 million in losses for the tiremaker, according to reports from the Associated Press.
Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand Governor Verapong Chaiperm said that the fire destroyed six out of 15 warehouses in the tire facility, and the blaze took more than seven hours to control.
Linglong shifted U.S. production to this plant – its first factory outside of China – in anticipation of the new duties on consumer tires produced in China and sold in the U.S.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire. No casualties were reported, according to AP.
