European Program from Michelin to Reimburse Unrealized Fuel Savings

michelinMichelin is offering price per kilometer tire management contracts with a contractual fuel-saving commitment for the first time in Europe, according to Tyres & Accessories.

The company announced the program at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2015 in Birmingham, United Kingdom, calling it a “new pan-European value-creation offer for road transport fleets.”

The solution is titled “Effitires with fuel commitment” and is designed to make both haulers and owner-operators more efficient by combining outsourced tire procurement and expert tire management with a commitment to saving fuel, Tyres & Accessories reported.

The fuel commitment is generated following a custom audit of the fleet conducted by Michelin solutions to evaluate its operational condition and the nature of the fleet’s work.

To be eligible for this new offer, the customer must have equipped at least 70% of its fleet with a telematics system and commit to fitting vehicles covered under the contract with energy-efficient Michelin tires. In the event of the contractual savings not being attained, Michelin solutions will reimburse the operator for the unrealized savings on a pro rata basis.

The contract also includes 24-hour roadside assistance for tire-related breakdowns, with a promise to arrive on the scene within two hours of receiving a call-out.

If you could boil this year's Continental Tire GOLD member meeting into one takeaway, it's that the tire manufacturer is putting a whole lot of effort into listening and responding to its dealer base. Continental doesn't own company stores, so building a strong value proposition around the company's brands and products with its distributors and retailers is the most effective path to success. To maximize the mutual benefits of this partnership, Continental leadership says acting on the will of its dealer base – whether that's about product, programs, distribution, or anything else – is paramount.
