According to news reports from Singapore, Thai tiremaker Deestone can keep its namesake brand despite opposition from Bridgestone Corporation, which owns the Bridgestone and Firestone brand names. The global tiremaker filed a complaint about the use of the family of “stone” brand marks but the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (Ipos) found that Bridgestone and Firestone had been used and promoted as separate and independent brands, and “there was no evidence to show that there were attempts to educate consumers that the two brands come from the same corporate family.”
