CTNA, Union Still at Odds Over Charlotte Plant

(Akron/Tire Review) Continental Tire North America (CTNA) and union representatives met for two days this week but reached no agreements, according to the Charlotte Observer newspaper.

The USW will likely request another meeting next week, said Mark Cieslikowski, president of Local 850.

CTNA, stating that manufacturing costs at the Charlotte plant are higher than all other Continental plants worldwide, has sought wage and benefit concessions from workers, including a 35% across-the-board reduction.

Last month, CTNA said it would lay off about 241 salaried and hourly employees on Mar. 15 then 272 more in June, leaving an estimated 573 workers at the plant.
