Continental Tire the Americas released a new, low platform trailer tire the company said "offers a unique combination of structural durability and improved fuel economy."
Continental’s HTL2 Eco Plus (Heavy Trailer Long-Haul) is now available in sizes 215/75R17.5, 235/75R17.5 and 245/70R17.5 in load range J and tread depths from 13-15/32nds.
The tire provides low profile sizes for high cube applications, but incorporates Continental’s exclusive compounding for low rolling resistance and increased fuel savings at cooler operating temperatures, according to the tiremaker. HTL2 Eco Plus’ tread pattern features groove technologies that reduce stone retention for increased casing life, along with groove geometry that promotes efficient water evacuation, traction and wet braking capabilities throughout the tire’s life, Continental said. The tire also offers 18-ply construction, which the company claimed allows it to operate efficiently at heavy capacity with long original mileage and low overall cost per mile.
“For operations requiring high carrying capacity, the HTL2 Eco Plus offers no compromises,” said Clif Armstrong, Continental’s director of commercial tire marketing in the Americas. “Durability, long mileage and low rolling resistance while still allowing heavier loads will make the HTL2 Eco Plus a favorite among these long haul fleets with low platform trailers.”
