Consumer sentiment rose to 76.2 in March on the University of Michigan’s index, the highest reading on that scale in more than a year.
The UM February reading also was revised to 73.5.
Economists polled by CBS/MarketWatch had expected a final March reading of 75.
Lingering employment issues and continued rises in gas prices weighed heavily on consumers last month, according to the UM researchers.
