Gary Eavers initially opted out of the family business, instead choosing a career as internal auditor.
It wasn’t until three years ago that he joined his family’s business. Today, he’s director of operations the nearly 60 year-old company.
Eavers day-to-day activities include reviewing numbers, working the sales counter, planning for upcoming promotions, and more.
The variety of the work is what Eavers like most about being a tire dealer.
“Every day is different. Educating customers on the importance of automotive maintenance and that tires are not all the same just because they are all round and black,” he says.
In addition to his position at his shop, Eavers is a member of the Virginia Automotive Association’s Next Gen Advisory Council.
“The opportunity to work with the VAA and its board members is exciting because of all of the wisdom we can glean from successful men and women who have been in the industry longer than we have,” he shares. “I am also excited about the opportunity to network with other young techs, mechanics, service advisors, managers and business owners. It’s important for us to engage and interact as a group so we can utilize those relationships as we move our industry into the next 30 years.”
Fun Fact: If Eavers could have invented anything, he wishes he came up with the iPhone. “I’m pretty sure I could have retired at age 25, if only I had thought of it,” he jokes.
