The Buffalo News reportsthat a former tire manager for the West Herr, N.Y., chain of auto dealershipswas sentenced today to jail and ordered to repay $120,000 of $160,000 headmitted stealing from the business.
The manager began stealingfrom West Herr shortly after becoming manager of its wholesale tire operationsin mid-2005. Fired in September 2007, the man also was forced to sign aconfession of the thefts.
Prosecutors said that theformer manager would fake tire-purchase forms and send checks to a fake tirecompany with the same business name as a defunct pizzeria he once co-owned.
The scam came to light whendealership managers began curious about the number of tires the man claimed hehad ordered.
