Bridgestone RFT Training Programme Gathers Momentum

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Bridgestone has underlined its commitment to educate tyre dealers and fitters about run-flat technology after registering a near 20 per cent increase in participants on its Run-Flat Certificate Programme.

A total of 237 dealerships are now certified to replace run-flat tyres after completing the free training scheme – an 18.5 per cent increase in numbers in the first quarter of 2006.

“With a growing number of manufacturers fitting run-flat tyres as original equipment, it’s vital tyre technicians are up to speed about the technology,” said Paul Turner, Bridgestone UK’s technical training manager.

“Even if dealers haven’t had any need to replace run-flats before now, the chances are they will do in the near future. Completing our programme ensures that every time a run-flat tyre is requested by a customer, the best advice is given and the correct fitting procedure is followed.

“We anticipate the number of accredited dealerships to continue growing steadily during 2006 as run-flat technology becomes increasingly commonplace.”

The Run-Flat Certificate Programme involves specialist trainers from Bridgestone attending the delegates’ site and leading training sessions at the individual depot or dealership. Sessions comprise practical demonstrations and tests to ensure proficiency, and an assessment of equipment to gauge its suitability for fitting run-flat tyres.

Technicians are also given theoretical advice on the technology itself, covering important lessons such as to never fit run-flat tyres on cars that don’t have a tyre pressure monitoring system.
