Bridgestone Names Nationwide ‘Fuel the Drive’ Winners

FuelTheDriveBridgestone Americas has announced the grand prize winners of the 2015 Fuel the Drive contest – Minges Brook Elementary School in Battle Creek, Mich., and World Compass Academy in Castle Rock, Colo. The company was inspired to award two grand prizes based on the narrow margin of votes between the top two entries, Bridgestone said.

In addition, Bridgestone awarded a runner-up prize of $5,000 to Crestwood Intermediate School in Chesapeake, Va.

The Fuel the Drive contest is part of the tiremaker’s partnership with the National Football League initiative, NFL PLAY. The company created the contest as a way to help fund a new or existing K-12 school-based athletic program or wellness initiative. In addition to prize money, the top three winners will receive an NFL Play 60 in a Box kit.

“Like everyone who voted in our Fuel the Drive Contest, we were inspired by these wonderful and deserving projects, and we are excited to be able to give away two grand prizes,” said Amber Holm, vice president of brand marketing at Bridgestone. “Programs like Fuel the Drive are an important part of our vision at Bridgestone to be an innovative tire company and an outstanding corporate citizen. We want to do our part to make the communities where we do business great places for local youth to live and play.”

All three winners are making playground and recreation area improvement with their prize money, Bridgestone said. Minges Brook Elementary School is purchasing new playground equipment; World Compass Academy is buying soccer nets, a baseball backstop and bleachers; and Crestwood Intermediate School is purchasing additional playground equipment.

To enter the contest, nearly 100 contestants submitted a 250-word essay describing why their school’s program has untapped potential and explaining how contest prize money would be used, Bridgestone said. A panel of judges selected the top 10 finalist and the public was invited to vote for their top choice.
