Bridgestone Americas has invested in ClearMotion, Inc., a technology company that is developing road-sensing software and hardware to improve ride performance in cars.

With the investment, Bridgestone hopes to integrate ClearMotion’s proactive ride technology to engineer new, innovative solutions for the automotive industry, the tiremaker said. The system makes traditional dampers intelligent and responsive via new proprietary software algorithms, delivering a dramatic improvement in comfort, performance and safety.

“We will be working with ClearMotion not only to advance the future of the digital, connected, autonomous car, but also to leverage our leadership in tire, anti-vibration, and air spring technology in order to deliver unparalleled ride comfort, safety and more advanced mobility solutions,” said Bill Thompson, chief operating officer, Bridgestone Americas.

Bridgestone is the only tire and rubber manufacturing company investing in ClearMotion.
