Joining Ishibashi in the class of 2006 are vehicle designer Nuccio Bertone, race driver Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR chief Bill France Jr., AutoNation founder Wayne Huizenga, former Ford president Arjay Miller and designer Bruno Sacco.
The inductees were announced Apr. 12 at the International Motor Press Association meeting at the New York International Auto Show, and the formal induction ceremonies will take place in Dearborn, Mich., on Oct. 3.
Ishibashi (1889 – 1976) established Bridgestone Tire Co. Ltd., in 1931 to manufacture and market tires in his home country. Sixty-five years later, Bridgestone Corp. is the largest tire and rubber company in the world.
