An estimated 90% of cars owned by Quebec residents already use winter tires. The proposed bill would mandate 100% use between Nov. 15 and Apr. 15 each year.
The measure would not go into effect until November 2008.
The winter tire law proposal is part of a larger bill that would also require speed limiters to be installed on all heavy trucks, for a return to mandatory driver’s education courses, and adds tougher penalties for speeders and drunk drivers.
It is expected the provincial bill will become law sometime before the first of the year. (Tire Review/Akron)
