A group from the Automotive Service Association (ASA) recently met with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Leadership from ASA’s mechanical division sat down with David Friedman, NHTSA’s acting administrator, to discuss the importance of vehicle safety inspections. To date, only 17 of 50 states have mandatory state vehicle inspection programs.
The group also spoke with Friedman about advancements in vehicle technology.
“We certainly enjoyed meeting Administrator Friedman and look forward to working closely with the NHTSA team on related issues in the near future,” said Bob Wills, ASA’s mechanical division director.
According to ASA, Friedman acknowledges that independent repairers are a valuable source of on-the-ground expertise and would like the NHTSA to work with ASA members to collect information for its Office of Defects Investigation.
