Abilene, Texas, officials approved a measure that will provide money to aid the planned expansion of a Bridgestone Americas retread plant in the city.
The Development Corporation of Abilene approved $315,300 for the Bridgestone Bandag plant, which will be paid over three years to expand facilities and create 11 new full-time jobs. The plant employs some 130 full-time workers.
The total expansion project, according to reports, is estimated at $1.5 million.
Plans call for the tiremaker to add 40,000 square feet of space to the retread facility, which was built in 1971. The government aid will provide $165,300 for job creation incentives, and $150,000 toward plant expansion.
