Toyo Supplies OUMF

(Staffordshire, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Toyo looks set to give a head start to the automotive stars of tomorrow, thanks to the company's latest sponsorship deal with The Oxford Universities Motorsport Foundation, or OUMF as it is affectionately known.

OUMF is an independent, pan university student initiative, founded in 2005, to promote practical engineering and associated skills through the medium of motor racing. Already it looks set to provide a valuable skill base of able enthusiasts that will benefit the industry for years to come.

Providing the rubber for the students’ latest projects, which include a stunningly restored Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV racer and rapid Golf Mk2 GTI, will hopefully give these talented men and women a competitive edge in their push for the forthcoming season. And, what a packed year it’s going to be, with appearances already booked at blue-chip events like the Goodwood Revival and Race Retro in Warwickshire.

The standard of preparation of the OUMF cars is quite staggering, particularly when you consider they are turning out real race cars from what is basically a converted cowshed. Tackling disciplines as diverse as hill-climbing, road rallying and circuit racing, the students involved quickly learn the art of car preparation, gaining rather more than just a glowing paragraph on their C.V.

Toyo’s European Marketing and Strategy Manager Mike Rignall enthusiastically explained the latest partnership: "We’re delighted to be involved in supporting this brilliant organisation," he said. "We have long been a passionate supporter of Motorsport at grass-roots level – and this allows us to do our little bit to help nurture the next Gordon Murray or Ross Brawn. Keep an eye on this lot!"

So, whether the OUMF team find themselves on the podium or not, it looks like both the industry and students themselves are already clear winners.
