The Tire Industry Association has announced a tentative schedule for educational sessions during the Global Tire Expo at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
The first day, Nov. 4, kicks off with three different educational sessions; TPMS at 10: Tire Dealers Share TPMS Success, Truck Tires at 10: CSA and the Changing Face of Truck Tire Service and Tires at 2: Successful Tire Dealers Share Their Secrets.
TPMS at 10: Tire Dealers Share TPMS Success will feature industry representatives as well as Sean MacKinnon, TIA director of automotive training development, and Matt White, TIA director of tire service. The session will discuss how TPMS has impacted the independent tire dealer’s business and how to turn TPMS headaches into profits.
Truck Tires at 10: CSA and the Changing Face of Truck Tire Service will feature speaker Kevin Rohlwing, TIA senior vice president of training. The session will outline the Compliance Safety Accountability program from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrations and how that affects the way fleets maintain their trucks. It will also cover the history and changes made within the CSA program.
Tires at 2: Successful Tire Dealers Share Their Secrets will feature Tire Review’s Top Shop winner, as well as winners from Modern Tire Dealer’s Dealer of the Year and Tire Business’s Humanitarian Award. The group will offer some insight on what they think has made them successful and, following the presentation, participate in a Q&A session.
Nov. 5 will also feature three education breakouts – TPMS at 10: TPMS Troubleshooting; Truck Tires at 10: Identifying Hazards in Commercial Tire Service; and Management at 2: The Future of Social Media.
TPMS at 10: TPMS Troubleshooting will feature TIA’s MacKinnon and White discussing the top 10 TPMS issues faced in shops. The pair will share solutions to these problems as well as allow audience participation with a discussion of their TPMS issues.
Truck Tires at 10: Identifying Hazards in Commercial Tire Service features Rohlwing. TIA has been tracking fatality data from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration since 2009 and has participated in several OSHA investigations related to commercial tire service, the association said. The seminar will identify the most significant hazards to technicians that service truck tires and wheels and provide specific examples of both fatal and non-fatal accidents.
Management at 2: The Future of Social Media will be led by Pat Sandone, founder and president of Net Driven. This session will discuss the shift toward app-only software leading Internet users to start valuing quality relationships over the quantity of relationships in their network. Learn how to communicate with and keep your online audience engaged in today’s changing social media landscape during this educational session.
The last day, Nov. 6, will feature one session. The Management at 2: Risk Management and Standard of Care will feature speakers TIA’s Rohlwing, and Laramie Sandquist, risk manager-national accounts at Federated Insurance Companies. The pair will discuss the most common types of losses in the tire service industry and explain how standard care applies to everything in the shop. The session will also feature case studies from the industry to demonstrate how easily a tire service provider can become exposed to litigation.
