The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is offering $100 to the winner of its “Tire Selfie” contest.
From Aug. 21 to Sept. 30, the MPCA is encouraging Minnesotans to snap and post pictures of themselves taking their tire pressure and tag it with the hashtags #TireCheck and #MPCA.
The agency notes that checking tire pressure can reduce pollution and save consumers money at the pump.
“About 40% of the five million cars on Minnesota roads don’t have properly inflated tires. Those cars are spewing out up to 306,000 extra tons of carbon dioxide per year because their tires are under-inflated. These emissions directly contribute to increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere,” the agency said.
