Hankook Tire Co. will showcase its i-Flex, an airless concept tire, at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show this week.
The tire is being manufactured in conjunction with the wheel as one-piece and is lighter than the typical wheel/tire combo, according to the tiremaker. The puncture-proof tire cuts fuel consumption and noise compared to conventional setups while increasing safety, the company noted. Additionally the 95% of the i-Flex’s construction is recyclable.
The i-Flex is one of several concept tires the company is working on, including its eMembrane tire.
