Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. used its title sponsorship of the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day to get more than just its name out there. While attendees watched the game, Goodyear representatives measured the wear of the tires parked in the stadium’s lot.
After Goodyear’s “pit team” checked the tire depth, they left behind a flyer with the results of the check and special offers.
This is not the first time Goodyear has checked spectators’ tires at an event, according to a Goodyear spokesman. The tiremaker has also checked tires at select NASCAR events.
“We know that many people simply don’t think about their tires, even though they play a critical role – and we know there are a lot of people out there who are driving on tires with low tread. Our goal was to make people aware of their tread depth, and provide an offer to help them replace their tires, if needed,” a spokesman told Tire Review.
During the game, Goodyear also had several on-site activities including make-your-own T-shirts booth, a football toss, photo opportunities, product displays and a giant Plinko game that featured full-size tires. Inside, a remote-controlled Goodyear Blimp flew around during pre-game and halftime.
The tiremaker also sponsored a “Goodyear Big Play Luncheon” before game day for fans to hear from both teams’ coaches. Attendees also had the chance to win a blimp ride.
