Garage Gurus Expanding Program in 2016

Federal-Mogul Motorparts is expanding Garage Gurus, its technical education program for service professionals, in 2016. Changes to the program, which launched last year, will include expanded curriculum, new training center locations and additional technician incentives.

The Garage Gurus network of training centers will expand to 12 locations with grand openings in the Boston, Detroit and Houston markets early in the year. The program is already available in Atlanta, Baltimore, Bronx, N.Y., Dallas/Fort Worth; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Skokie, Ill., St. Louis, and Van Nuys and Rancho Dominguez, Calif.

In addition to new training centers, Garage Gurus is launching several new courses.

“Garage Gurus on-site and on-demand training are now within easy reach of tens of thousands of technicians, service writers, repair shop owners and parts professionals,” said Brent Berman, director, training and consumer experience, Federal-Mogul Motorparts. “We are now scaling up our curriculum and introducing convenient evening courses to help maximize the positive impact of each of our state-of-the-art training centers.”

Expanded curriculum will include test prep for the ASE A4 Automotive Steering and Suspension and A5 Brakes certification exams. These classes will be led by ASE-certified Gurus and will review all topics included in the corresponding ASE exam as well as test procedures, guidelines and sample questions.

Also new to the curriculum are the following four-hour evening workshops:

  • Analyzing Today’s Ignition Systems (IGN.303.1.WS)
  • How to Use Your Lab Scope (IGN.305.1.WS)
  • Understanding Fuel Trims (IGN.304.1.WS)
  • Advanced Brake System Service Tips and Techniques (BRK.206.1.WS)
  • ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Testing (BRK.207.1.WS)
  • Diagnosing Modern Chassis Systems (SS.105.1.WS)
  • Calibrating Steering Angle Sensors (SS.106.1.WS)
  • Fel-Pro Engine Misfire Diagnostics (ENG.404.1.WS)

The new year will also see an expanded fleet of “Gurus-On-The-Go” vans to offer field training sessions throughout the U.S. and Canada, Federal-Mogul said.

Other changes to the Garage Gurus program included a new “Garage Rewards” technician inventive program for professionals who participate in training and/or use Federal-Mogul products. Rewards include hats, t-shirts, hoodies and other gear, Federal-Mogul said.
