Federal-Mogul Offering ‘Garage Gurus’ Scholarships

Federal-Mogul Motorparts will award $30,000 in scholarships to qualified full-time and part-time students who are studying to become professional automotive technicians. The Garage Guru scholarship was announced in connection with the company’s grand opening of the first three Garage Gurus regional training campuses.Garage_Gurus_Common_Area

“Garage Gurus represents an important investment in the future of tens of thousands of local automotive service businesses and their employees,” said Dan Ninivagg, Federal-Mogul Motorparts CEO. “This new scholarship program extends our investment to the next generation of talented, highly trained professionals who will help keep millions of vehicles in safe, reliable condition.”

Garage Gurus will award twelve $2,500 scholarships for the 2015-2016 school year. Applications will be accepted now through June 30, 2015, with recipients announced in July.

Scholarship awards will be based on completed applications as well as written essays or videos describing, “Why I want to be a top technician,” Federal-Mogul said. All applicants must be enrolled on a full-time or part-time at an accredited U.S.-based automotive technical school or college.

Garage Gurus is a combination of onsite, online and on-demand training for technicians, service writers and shop owners.

Each Garage Gurus training center will include multiple vehicle repair/training bays equipped with the latest tools and will be staffed by more than 100 ASE certified Gurus, Federal-Mogul said. Operating out of these garages will be Gurus-On-The-Go product technology vans that will visit repair shops and technicians throughout each region.

The first four Garage Gurus regional training centers will open in April in Bronx, N.Y., St. Louis, Mo., Skokie, Ill., and Van Nuys, Calif. Federal-Mogul expects to have 15 training centers and 50 mobile vans by the end of the year.

The company is also planning on opening one Garage Guru center internationally in Shanghai, China,  Ninivagg told Tire Review.

Federal-Mogul hosted a grand opening ceremony for its Chicago-area Garage Guru training center on April 14. The ceremony featured tours, food, giveaways, and a guest appearance by Danny “the Count” Koker of “Counting Cars.” Check out photos from the event on Facebook.
