Goodyear officially launched its foray into direct online sales to consumers, and the Chicago market is the first for this e-commerce play.
The company announced today that it has “become the first tire manufacturer to simplify the tire-buying process by offering consumers the option to purchase tires and installation on its website.”
This first thrust covers the greater Chicagoland area, including Cook; DeKalb; DuPage; Grundy; Kane; Kendall; Lake McHenry; Will; Jasper, Ind.; Lake, Ind.; Newton, Ind.; Porter, Ind., and Kenosha, Wis., the tiremaker claimed.
Goodyear has kept its rollout plans under wraps since it first announced its online intent at its annual Dealer Conference, held in January in Dallas, but said today that the online program will be expanded into other markets over the “next several weeks.” Those markets were not identified.
“The e-commerce program, announced today in Chicago, has been designed with the changing needs of consumers in mind,” the tiremaker said in its news release. “It provides a simple, seamless transaction from purchase to installation – with transparent, upfront pricing. By visiting Goodyear.com, Chicago drivers can become some of the first in the nation to purchase Goodyear tires online.”
“For consumers who prefer the convenience and control of online shopping, this program provides a welcome option,” said Mike Dauberman, Goodyear’s senior director of marketing and interactive. “The evolution of Goodyear.com further represents our drive to innovate, as we adapt to the changing needs of today’s consumer.”
According to Goodyear, consumers can purchase tires online from “any computer or mobile device by visiting Goodyear.com. After identifying their vehicle or tire size, available Goodyear tire options are provided along with clear information to help consumers make the right tire selection. The consumer then schedules an appointment for tire installation at an authorized installer of their choice and the purchase is completed on Goodyear.com. Tire and installation costs are paid online and upfront, allowing consumers to simply show up for the appointment at their scheduled installation time.
