Bridgestone Americas will continue to operate its Advanced Technology Workshop (ATW) manufacturing facility in Akron, Ohio.
The tiremaker recently signed a two-year lease extension option on its ATW manufacturing, keeping more than 50 jobs in the area.
“I am pleased that Bridgestone will continue to manufacture tires and retain jobs in our community,” said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. “We look forward to continuing our long and successful partnership.”
ATW was original founded in the early 1980s as the original Firestone Tire and Rubber Co.’s Plant One building. According to Bridgestone, ATW is one of the tiremaker’s most historic tire production facilities in North America. Bridgestone employs about 900 personnel at its Akron campus, which includes the Americas Technical Center (ATC) and ATW.
“We’d like to thank our city, county and state leaders for their continued support of Bridgestone and our investments in Northeast Ohio,” said Steve Charles, vice president of product development for Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations.
