At this month's Pneu Expo 2012 in France, Yokohama’s flagship eco tire, the BluEarth-1, was awarded a Pneu Expo Innovations Trophy.

Trophies were given for excellence in one of three categories: environmental actions, shop equipment innovations and service innovations. The Japanese tiremaker was awarded the trophy for environmental actions, recognizing the BluEarth-1’s contribution to bettering the environment through improved vehicle fuel economy.

The BluEarth-1 was developed based on Yokohama’s global BluEarth concept of “being human and socially friendly combined with improvements to environmental performance.”

The tire incorporates Yokohama’s latest environmental technologies such as nano blend rubber, orange oil, aerodynamic design, Airtex advanced liner and weight reduction.

Yokohama’s BluEarth concept has also been honored with the Japanese Good Design Award, which it won last year, and a BluEarth-1 specimen has been on display at the Museum of Science in Boston since the autumn of 2011. (Tyres & Accessories)
