No one can ever accuse Pam Oakes of just sitting around her office.
The owner and certified service technician at Pam’s Motor City Automotive in Fort Myers, Fla., not only spends her days running a successful, well-recognized tire and service business, she has also authored a well-read book to aid consumers and has recently broken into the broadcasting business.
Since writing “Car Care for the Clueless” nearly two years ago, Oakes was asked to host a weekly podcast of the same title on Internet broadcaster WGRN (Sundays at 9 a.m. ET) and another on webtalkradio.net. Plus, she’s hard at work on a follow-up to her “Car Care for the Clueless” book.
As if that’s not enough, Oakes is taking to the Internet with yet another program – the Car ER Show (car-ershow.com) – which “follows me, my long-time fiancé Peter, and the rest of the gang at Pam's Motor City as we deal with auto repairs, eccentric customers and, sometimes, serious attitudes within the shop. But, there's a lot of fun and good times, too.” ACDelco has stepped in as a sponsor of the show.
“I own, operate and turn wrenches at the shop, day in and day out,” Oakes said. “Not many women dare to venture into this highly male-oriented field of work, but I have followed my father's, grandfather's and great-grandfather's footsteps. And, I give the boys a run for their money.”
