Cooper Workers Hope Talks Restart Next Week

While Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. is saying virtually nothing to the media, it appears that negotiations with workers at its Findlay, Ohio, tire plant may resume soon.

That’s the word from USW Local 207, which “hopes” to get back to the bargaining table next week with a federal negotiator. However, Local 207 thought negotiations were restarting in early January, but Cooper claimed otherwise and no talks have been held since Dec. 13.

Some 1,050 union members have been locked out of their jobs at the Findlay plant since Nov. 28. Meanwhile, 1,500 union workers at Cooper’s Texarkana, Ark., plant ratified a new four-year deal late last month.

According to a story in the Findlay Courier, some Findlay workers would now be open to a contract similar to the one their fellow workers in Texarkana got.
