The recall of some Toyo Extensa A/S passenger radials has extended to Canada.
Toyo Tire Canada is recalling an estimated 1,884 of the tire, a move announced a week after Toyo Tire USA Inc. announced its own recall of 68,763 Extensa A/S tires sold in the U.S.
The Canadian recall includes Toyo Extensa A/S tires in size P225/60R16 97T sold in Canada since September 2009, and produced at Toyo’s plant in White, Ga., during a period starting in the 38th week of 2009 and lasting through the 44th week of 2010.
If the tire was manufactured before or after this period, or has the “Made in Japan” or “Made in China” mark on the sidewall, they are not being recalled.
The tires are from the same lot and timeframe as those being recalled in the U.S., and may have been produced with a kink at the bead area of the tires. Under certain circumstances, the kink may eventually lead to a crack in the bead area. If a crack develops and is left undetected, the tire may fail, potentially causing loss of vehicle control and a crash, the recall states.
