Durand, Wisc.-based Bauer Built Inc. has acquired the commercial division of Walker Tire and Auto Service, located in Omaha, Neb., effective Jan. 20, 2012.

The acquisition is the result of an ongoing effort by Bauer Built to expand its existing operations as part of the company's overall growth plan and improve its presence in the Omaha market, according to Bauer Built.

Dave Coufal, Bauer Built’s vice president of sales for the west region, will oversee activities at the location. A number of Walker employees will stay with Bauer Built, as well. Walker Tire has been in business for over 60 years in Omaha and will continue to operate its retail and wholesale locations, which were not part of the transaction.

Bauer Built will continue to offer the same services and many of the same product lines as Walker Tire did, including Michelin, BFGoodrich, Bridgestone, Firestone, Kumho and Hercules tires. Additional services will be added based on customer needs, the company said. Michelin Retread Technologies also will be offered.

Founded in 1944, Bauer Built, services the Midwest in the wholesale, commercial and retail distribution of tires (new and retreaded), batteries, automotive services and other related products. Under the leadership of President Jerry Bauer, the company has 29 Tire Centers, nine Wholesale Distribution Centers and seven MRT retread plants.
