Aftermarket professionals planning to attend the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA) 2012 Aftermarket Legislative Summit must register and finalize hotel reservations by Feb. 3.

The summit, scheduled for March 14-15 in Washington, D.C., provides attendees with an opportunity to discuss issues affecting their businesses with key leaders on Capitol Hill.

“The Aftermarket Legislative Summit enhances our ability to demonstrate the size of our industry and the positive impact we have on the economy while we deliver a strong message to Congress,” said Kathleen Schmatz, president and CEO, AAIA. “Success happens when the industry comes together to demonstrate to elected officials its immense contribution to the economy through job creation, maintaining the nation’s transportation infrastructure and in keeping Americans on the road.”

There is no fee to attend the summit. Attendees need to make their own travel arrangements, but AAIA’s government affairs staff will make attendees’ congressional appointments and ensure they are fully briefed on the issues that they want to discuss with their elected officials.

To kick off the event on March 14, attendees will hear from Ed Gillespie, former counselor to President George W. Bush, and Terry McAuliffe, former chairman, Democratic National Committee, who will discuss the current political climate in Washington and what to expect from the upcoming election season. In addition, Lois Greisman, associate director, marketing practices at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), will discuss her department’s responsibilities under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, as well as how they are protecting consumers from unfair marketing practices that are detrimental to the aftermarket industry.

Attendees are invited to attend a congressional reception on Capitol Hill that evening. Meetings with the congressional offices will be scheduled for March 15.
