Several people were injured after a set of dual tire/wheel assemblies crashed into the wall of a Pizza Hut restaurant in Pineville, La., on Jan. 11.
As of yesterday, police were still searching for the tractor/trailer that lost its duals on U.S. Highway 165 in front of the now heavily damaged restaurant. The accident occurred at around 8 p.m.
Police said at least four people suffered injuries, including concussions and lacerations. Some customers told local media that when the tire/wheel assembly struck the building “it sounded like a bomb had gone off.”
The tire/wheel assembly hit the exterior wall near a large window, sending brick, plaster and glass everywhere. Fortunately for patrons, police said, the assembly actually deflected off the wall and never actually entered the building. Police noted that if the assembly hadn’t hit where it did, the results would have been catastrophic.
Police have no identification on the vehicle, and a statewide hunt was undertaken.
