Bridgestone Corp. has a new chief executive officer. Earlier today, the company's board of directors approved a number of senior personnel changes, including the appointment of Masaaki Tsuya to the role of CEO.

Incumbent chairman of the board, CEO and president Shoshi Arakawa will continue in the position of chairman, a role the company claims has been “newly redefined.” Bridgestone offered no insight as to what “newly redefined” means.

The tiremaker also did not name a successor to Arakawa as president.

Before his appointment as CEO, Tsuya served as senior vice president and member of the board responsible for Bridgestone’s diversified products, sports and cycle business. He was also chief risk management officer, chief human rights officer, and chief compliance officer for internal auditing.

In his new role, Tsuya will continue to serve as a representative board member.

Taking on the newly established position of chief operating officer is Kazuhisa Nishigai, currently senior vice president and member of the board responsible for Bridgestone’s Japan tire business and replacement tire sales. In his new role, Nishigai will continue as a representative board member. (Tyres & Accessories)
