Police are still investigating a daring theft at American Tire Distributors' Lincolnton, N.C., distribution center on Dec. 28 in which some 500 new medium truck tires were stolen.
According to reports, the thief simply drove up to the DC's loading dock in a white Freightliner truck, hooked up to a freshly loaded trailer and drove off.
The truck had an “ACC” logo on its side, for Atlantic Coast Conference Logistics. Police later found that ACC only has one truck. The trailer, which was later found abandoned in Charlotte, is owned by Barnes Transportation Services.
The tires, valued at some $51,000, have not been found.
