Starco reports having laid the foundation stone for its new central warehouse complex in Winsen, about 30 kilometers south of Hamburg, Germany.

The new complex is expected to enter operation by May 1, 2012, and will serve as the central warehouse for the supply of wheels, tires and associated products to both Starco’s OE and aftermarket customers in Western Europe.

The relocation to larger premises in Winsen is a logical decision, said Starco, as the company has outgrown its existing facility in nearby Luneburg. The new location offers Starco access to the region’s growing industrial markets via a well-developed transport infrastructure. The new warehouse builds upon the company’s strategy of reducing inventories in many national warehouses whilst ensuring most products in the Starco catalogue can be delivered anywhere in Europe within 24 hours. The various national warehouses will continue to stock products for which there is regular local demand, but most orders will be fulfilled from Winsen.

“The new central warehouse is designed and will be set up to fully exploit the opportunities for efficiency and reliability that will result from the Starco group’s ongoing implementation of a group-wide ERP system which will be fully integrated with the Starco catalogue and the company’s on-line web shops – enabling orders from regular customers to be handled extremely quickly by our logistics staff,” commented Starco managing director Axel Werner.

The new logistics complex will have 10,700 square meters of warehouse space and 700 square meters of office accommodation – with space for a further 5,000 square meters expansion available when required. (Tyres & Accessories)
