Don't Tell Anyone, But Titan Made Some Buys

Doing anything quietly has never been Titan International's strong suit, so the fact that it apparently bought out two companies back in September may be a bit of a surprise.

Titan bought out tire and retread mold maker Ohio Machine & Manufacturing Co., headquartered in Los Angeles, and wheel production equipment maker Automation International Inc. of Danville, Ill. Both deals closed in September, according to chairman and CEO Morry Taylor, who disclosed the deals during a Dec. 13 telephone presentation to financial analysts.

Taylor said the deals were made to give Titan a reliable source for tire molds and ag and OTR wheels. Specific terms of the deals were not announced.
