At the Lanxess Rubber Day China, held in Beijing on Dec. 2, Jiang Jian from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology informed delegates that preparations for a Chinese tire label are already underway.

"With regard to potential guidelines for tire labeling in China, we are comparing the stipulated standards with the present conditions. We have already made a start with research in this area," he said.

Jiang added that the ministry encourages China’s tire manufacturing industry to “operate in a green manner” and said manufacturers also take global standards into account: “China’s tire industry is highly dependent on exports, and for this reason we stipulate that the tire manufacturers already step up to the challenge of adhering to indirect guidelines such as those in place in the EU – and this is something they are more than capable of.”

Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber vice president Ge Guorong told Rubber Day China delegates that “mandatory tire labeling in China is just a matter of time. However, it must happen on a step-by-step basis – beginning with simple regulations. The main thing is that we actually take the first step in this direction and then continue to improve more and more.” (Tyres & Accessories)
