Pirelli Heads to Bahrain For Round Two of GP2 Asia Series
The second round of the 2011 GP2 Asia Series will take place from Feb. 17-19 at the Sakhir Circuit in Bahrain, with Pirelli equipping drivers with 13-inch P Zero control tires. As in Abu Dhabi, P Zero medium slicks will be used, powering a full grid of 26 GP2/11 cars. Since its opening in 2004, the Bahrain International Circuit has played a crucial role in helping to increase the popularity of single-seater championships in the Middle East. Aiming to become the home of motorsport in the Middle East, its 5.412 km-long track presents drivers with an exceptional challenge. Featuring 15 turns, four straights, a change in elevation of 18 meters and a variation in width from 14 to 22 meters, exciting overtaking opportunities and closely fought races are always on the cards. Sakhir's track surface is very grippy and highly demanding in terms of tire performance. With sun and sand always around, there are many factors that can affect the tires during races. The arid climate that Bahrain enjoys all year round can also bring the track temperature up to significant levels, meaning that the drivers have to manage their tires properly. “In Bahrain the rubber is likely to undergo a wide range of demands, including high track temperatures,” said Pirelli's Motorsport Director Paul Hembery. “Our GP2 medium slicks have great balance in terms of durability and performance, two factors that are vital when it comes to racing in Bahrain. We're really looking forward to the next two GP2 Asia races in Bahrain, where we aim to repeat the excellent performance shown by the P Zero tire in Abu Dhabi."
Falken Ready For 2012 King Of The Hammers Build
Falken Tire Corp.'s off-road program set out last year to build its name in a new category for the brand. Heavily focused on its new Wildpeak A/T tire line and the company's well-equipped Jeep JK, Falken participated in multiple events across the country including Tierra Del Sol, Moab Easter Jeep Safari, and capped off 2010 as the presenting sponsor of Off Road Evolution's JK Experience. Having recently announced the expansion of the new Wildpeak A/T line to include several 37-inch tire options, Falken looks to the next evolution of its program. Falken has enlisted the support of Clifton Slay and American Rock Rods to build its Ultra 4 Series vehicle and begin preparations for the 2012 King of the Hammers event. "I am honored to be selected as Falken's designer and builder for this project,” said Slay. "Falken has taken a bold approach into off road motorsports by immersing themselves into the dirt culture as behind the wheel participants, giving their tire engineers a real world, first-hand perspective of the elements necessary to craft a world class off road performance tire. We at American Rock Rods are very enthusiastic to contribute our experience in partnership with the Falken motorsport team to further their upward drive in the off road arena.”
