The U.S. government dropped the duty-free status for certain passenger tires produced in Thailand, part of a group of imported products that were part of an annual tariff review of trade programs involving emerging countries.
With the change, Thailand-produced passenger tires are now subject to a tariff if annual imports of those products exceed $140 million in value or represent 50% of total passenger tires imported into the U.S.
No tariff has been set or planned for these tires.
The status change was made when U.S. trade officials found the product to be ''sufficiently competitive'' in the U.S.
