Who's Next? The Who

The world’s biggest one-day sporting event is still two months away, but reports say that venerable British band The Who – well, the two surviving members at least – will provide the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl XLIV.

Bridgestone Americas are the exclusive sponsor of the Super Bowl halftime.

The selection of The Who continues the post-Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction” tradition of picking safe acts to provide mid-game entertainment. In recent years, the Super Bowl halftime was lit up by Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Prince and U2.

And there apparently won’t be a shortage of Super Bowl ads. CBS said it has nearly sold out all of the 30-second spots for the Super Bowl, with ad prices ranging between $2.5 million to $3 million.

The NFL championship game will air live from Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 7, 2010.
