How Many Stars Would You Have?

A number of years ago, TIA proposed creating a certification system for tire dealers. Unfortunately, nothing has come of that plan. But do you think independent tire dealers would benefit from such a program? Perhaps a star rating system similar to that used by the hospitality industry? Do you think such a program would be beneficial – to tire dealers and/or consumers? Use the comment area below to offer your input and ideas regarding a rating system for tire dealers.

Technicians recieve state level and ASE certifications. Both are more than adequate for 'letting the cream rise to the top', or 'seperating the men from the boys'. Though even then you can have some 'certified' shops that are still deceptive and operate outside the expected level of performance.

It is mostly a matter of taking pride in your job, and being a responsible individual. All rating systems are subjective, and as such the more the merrier. Shops that don't have ratings from TireRack, TIA, ACCC, or others has no bearing on the quality of the shop.

That said, it is TIA's choice to insitute a rating program.

Our shop is proud to show off our "stars" TirePros, ACCC, Tire Rack etc... We ARE a cut above and folks do look at ratings... I know I do when I shop.

Other than bragging rights, the TIA star system would be redundant. As Al said, there are ample, independent sources (like Yelp, Angie's List, and others) that provide this service. Customer's are TIA agnostic, for the most part, so unless TIA is prepared to add quite a bit of value for the dealer, there is no point to awarding such a rating.

Rating systems like Tire Rack are a common rating system done by customers & it works. A more accurate rating system would mean tech's would have to be certified which would mean a higher standard to the industry.

A rating system for tire dealers is a great idea. A better idea is Technician Licensing. A dealer can display and advertise this, just like a MD.

Though the service part of our business still requires a substantial amount of physical exertion, it has been and is continuing to be quite technical in nature. Subsequently, a rating system should be well received in our industry.

I say YES let the cream rise to the top!
