A Tampa, Fla., area tire dealer will get to keep his electric fence after the Sulphur Springs city council rescinded a city variance board ruling mandating that the dealer remove the fencing.
Luis Suriel, owner of Sunshine Tires, wanted the electric fence as a crime deterrent. The electric fence was installed atop of an existing chain link fence.
In a letter to city officials, Suriel said the electric fence was installed to protect his inventory from thieves. Recently, he claimed, someone stole $15,000 worth of tires and wheels from his location. Suriel also presented council members with a log of police calls he made between 1999 and 2005.
