As a business owner, you may
want to put together a safety manual to give to employees when they are hired.
The safety manual should highlight and explain specific dangers and hazards of
your dealership and the type of work they will be performing. The manual should
include equipment startup and lockdown procedures, operational safety
processes, equipment maintenance, activities to avoid, and proper attire for
operating the machinery in your shop.
Safety training should be
updated on a regular basis. Too often, dealers and retreaders provide safety
training once usually when a new person is hired but fail to follow up to
reinforce the importance of safety. Remember, unsafe practices impact your
insurance costs.
To further emphasize your
commitment to safety, you can also host safety awareness programs either by
bringing in speakers from equipment manufacturers or other sources, or
presenting awards for best safety suggestion or longest period without an
accident.
